I have always loved hair and beauty, even from a toddler. My mom has the stories and all my dolls have short hair and crazy makeup. I started my professional hair journey in Denver, Colorado as a Hair Olympic competitor training under world-renowned hair-Olympic Champion Michael Taylor. I went on to assist Augie Augusto, who gave me the strong foundation of hair cutting, styling and coloring. Between Augie and Michael, they both instilled in me that in order to be a great hairdresser you have to be dedicated, disciplined and detailed. They also sparked a love of education and for the next 15 years I worked in the salon and became a platform artist for global brands teaching hairdressers around the world.
My world really opened up when I became the colorist to the former artistic director for Vidal Sassoon and Trevor Sorbie, founder of Hairdesigner TV and M.O.D. Magazine online -industry icon Vivienne Mackinder. I was awarded the Rising Star Award, one of the highest honors for my work with Vivienne. When we were not traveling we were invited to do hair for some prominent designers at New York Fashion Week.
I was then asked to join L’Oreal as a L’Oreal Professionnel Portfolio Artist, touring the U.S, headlining shows and was the U.S representative to L’Oreal Paris Professionnel for photo shoots in the spring and summer collections.
After I became an established hair stylist/colorist in Miami, I opened one of the first and most successful organic salons in south Florida. At the same time, I developed the gold standard in consultations to help my clients discover their best selves, inside and out. When I was doing platform work, I was taking care of the outside of the client or model. When I opened my organic salon, my clients came with a whole different set of needs that I wanted to accommodate. It wasn’t just about their appearance but what they put on their hair, scalp and skin. My journey to understand ingredients, sensitivities and allergies led me to becoming a board certified hair colorist.
With a desire to understand the influences of hair loss and growth, as well as identifying and helping individuals with scalp and hair problems, I studied for two and a half years with the World Trichology Society to become a Certified Trichologist. Through my work and study with WTS, I realized while there are many solutions to promote hair growth successfully, there are also situations that require alternate solutions.
